Motorhome Travels - March 2014

30/03/2014

Most of this month was spent at the amazing Abrolhos Islands - and we had a blast!

If you have been reading our blog for a while you will know that we have been lucky enough to get to these tiny islands off the WA coast a few times now. For us they have a lot of draw-cards...

The quadcopter was not left out. Although it is a bit frightening flying over water (no second chances if anything were to go wrong), the unique scenery and light at the islands makes for great areal photography.

I awoke one morning to one of the most spectacular nature shows I have ever seen. As I crept out of the bedroom at around 5:30am (Tracey is not a morning girl), I was just stunned to see the drama that greeted me outside. While the air and the sea were both quite calm, in the distance I could see lightening flashes all around. A huge rain cloud was pouring its load on the sea between the rising sun and me. The sky looked like t was on fire. This amazing show seemed to be changing and developing before my eyes. I grabbed two cameras, three lenses and a tripod just as quickly (and quietly) as possible and began taking photos just as fast as I could. After 15 minutes of trying to capture lightening strikes(I got just one), it was still calm enough to fly the quadcopter and get some video. Just an amazing beginning to the day.

For two whole weeks we soaked up every aspect of the island, its moods and bounty. The best news of all is that we get to come back next month!
