Hobohome is a 1967, 38ft Bedford bus converted into a motorhome. For the first two years of our time with the motorhome it was powered by a 466ci Bedford diesel engine through a Turner 5 speed manual gearbox. In July 05 we replace the Bedford engine and gearbox with an Isuzu 6BD1-T and 6 speed transmission. The Isuzu is quieter, cleaner, has much more horsepower and is more economical to run.
The motorhome is fairly unique in that it has been modified to house a Mini Moke in the rear underneath the queen-sized bed. For a view of how that looks, click here (200k). The motorhome is self contained - it has its own hot and cold running water system, a toilet, two showers (one inside and one outside). It has a fairly complex electrical system that uses solar panels located on the roof to charge a bank of deep cycle batteries. This bank is used to provide power either at low voltage for lights etc or, via an inverter, 240 volts to power standard household appliances (TV, bread maker, microwave etc). We carry 300 litres of fresh water and 200 litres of drinking water, this is enough to last us up to two weeks or longer if we are careful. We have a battery powered transfer pump for pumping freshwater from a stream if we happen to be near one.

Here are a couple of photos of the interior as it was when we purchased the motorhome.

At time we purchased the motorhome it was setup for a family of four, with a set of bunks towards the back of the motorhome in addition to the queen bed at the back. There was also a set of travelling seats behind the drivers seat. We needed none of these things - so designed some changes. The process of making those changes can be seen on the refit page.
